Several weeks ago, during the closing minutes of the fifth episode (titled “The Door”) of the sixth season of Game of Thrones, viewers shed rivers of tears over the death of Hodor (played by Kristian Nairn). It was a truly heartbreaking scene in which the lovable lug sacrificed his life holding a door shut, preventing the Night King’s undead army from getting their bony hands on the new Three-Eyed Raven, Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright), and Meera (played by Ellie Kendrick). But what made it especially upsetting was that we finally learned how he went from a normal stable boy named Wyllis to a gentle giant that could only speak one word: “Hodor,” which is actually a fusion of “Hold the door.”

To honor Hodor’s noble act (or cash in, if you’re cynical), a group of friends have started a Kickstarter campaign for “Hodoor (Hold The Door) Tribute Doorstop.”
“My friends and I are huge GoT nerds. We know more about Westoros history than… actual history. We all agreed Hodor should be the one to sit on the Iron Throne until we watched the ending of season 6 episode 5. As a tribute to this oversized and simple-minded hero, we are creating this 6” “Hodoor” Hold the Door Doorstops. Yes, it actually works as a real doorstop,” the Kickstarter description reads. “We’ve already hired multiple designers (with over 20 years of combined experience) to bring this idea to life. The final version will be a, 6” tall “Hodoor” doorstop guaranteed to impress even the nerdiest GoT Fan.”
They are “in the process of applying for licensing rights from HBO for this project. If that falls through and they shut down our project, everyone will be refunded their pledge.”
You can check out a rendered model of the doorstop below.
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
