Way back in Game of Thrones fifth season premiere, a young Cersei Lannister took a jaunt through a swampy bog to meet a witch. After threatening to maim and disfigure the witch, as Cersei is wont to do, she’s convinced to tell the young lady her future. It’s yet another grim moment in ComicBook.com’s #1 Ranked TV Show.

But Cersei, who scheming and thirsting for power since the show’s first episode, doesn’t get the answers she wants. She learns she’ll be queen, “for a time. Then comes another, younger, more beautiful, to cast you down and take all you hold dear.” The witch also said her husband would have 20 children while Cersei would only have three. “Gold will be their crowns,” the soothsayer said, “Gold, their shrouds.”

Those words in the flashback have guided Cersei’s actions throughout the series, as she’s constantly worked against Sansa Stark and then Margaery Tyrell to retain her status. And despite casting Tyrell and the entire Great Sept into a pit of wildfire, she’s still not out from under the prophecy’s shadow.

Because she still has to deal with the rightful Queen Daenerys Targaryen, her dragons, and her growing army.

The novels delved a bit deeper into the theory, saying “The valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” In the show’s fictional language, “valonqar” means “little brother.” Probably one of the many reasons why she hates her brother Tyrion, aside from his birth resulting in their mother’s death.

But as Cersei now sits on the Iron Throne, the prophecy still looms. Her children are dead (“gold, their shrouds”) and Daenerys is heading to Westeros.

Then there’s the whole matter of the Kingslayer’s return to King’s Landing, and he didn’t appear too happy with his lover/sister.

That doesn’t mean that Jamie Lannister is about to live up to his nickname again.

โ€จWhile speaking with Huffington Post regarding the theory that Jamie would kill his sister, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau seemed to shoot it down.

“It’s a theory,” Coster-Waldau said, “but it has a beautiful, romantic, tragic thing [to it].It’s probably too obvious.”

The series has set up a few different ways for Cersei to finally bite the dust. Tyrion Lannister is now counseling her biggest threat for the throne, and he could be the one to do the honors once Daenerys and her army arrive in Westeros. He already did kill his mom and dad, what’s another family member?

It could be Arya Stark, who long ago put Cersei at the top of her kill list to avenge her father’s death.

It could even be Sansa, who is now allied with Jon Snow and the armies of Winterfell. She’s recently gotten in the business of extracting bloody revenge on her foes, and she does have a huge axe to grind with Cersei.

But someone needs to tell Coster-Waldau that just because a theory seems obvious doesn’t mean it’s not true. Just ask any fan about the R+L=J theory!
