Microsoft and The Coalition are ready to show off more of the Gears of War 4 campaign, and it includes a familiar face.

The studio’s released a new trailer for the much-anticipated game, and it features JD, Delmont, and Kait en route to a tower, and they happen to have JD’s dad, Marcus Fenix, in tow. While we knew a healthy part of JD’s story would be linked to the relationship with his father, we didn’t know that Marcus would actually be accompanying him and the rest of the group on a mission of any kind.
In celebration of San Diego Comic Con, the new sample of the campaign is not only viewable at the show but is also playable at the Xbox Booth (#100). The new gameplay slice features the crew taking on various combinations of swarm, but also shows how the new windflare mechanic affects the combat. We’ve previously seen the end of one of these sequences, where you’re running to avoid the lightning that’s coming down from the sky, but it’s the lead-up that is even more interesting.
The windflare is basically a lightning tornado so to speak, so it is constantly changing the environment you are fighting in. Debris is flying all over the field, and it can disrupt the enemy just as much as it disrupts you. You can also see JD firing at some debris during combat, which loosens it and sends it flying towards the swarm.
Also, I think we can agree that the knife execution will be something people see a lot of in multiplayer, like the gnasher execution before it.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One on October 11th.
