On a recent outing in New York’s Central Park, George Takei decided to navigate his way through Pokemon GO. The famous helmsman of the USS Enterprise caught onto the app quickly and even streamed his inaugural gaming session on Facebook Live to over 2 million fans.

Dressed in a Pikachu snapback and Pokemon t-shirt, the actor looks visibly excited to finally find out what all the fuss over Pokemon GO is about. Training alongside a friend, Takei can be seen walking around the spacious park as he learns all he can about the game. From discovering pokestops to catching Rattatas, the sci-fi legend basically beamed down to Earth with all us mere mortals just to see if he could catch ’em all.
Understandably, Takei wasn’t able to collect all 150 creatures that are available in the game. The shortage is almost certainly due to the actor’s frequent breaks as he took time to answer fan questions and give rousing endorsements for exercise and hydration. Oh, and we can’t forget Takei’s passionate words about conservation efforts. The actor is apparently a huge history buff about monuments and such.
And, to be completely honest, watching the beloved actor learn to play Pokemon GO is like watching one’s grandparents experience Facebook for the first time. It’s awkward, but more importantly, it’s absolutely adorable.
So far, Takei’s video has been shared well over 15k times and has racked up more than 102k reactions. Currently, the top comment belongs to the actor himself as he wrote, “Thanks Pokรฉmon – I had much fun taking a Pikachu new game. It was a Goldeen opportunity.”
See? This is why everybody loves the guy. Surely, if anyone deserved to discover where space-bound pokemon such as Mew and MewTwo have been hiding, it’d have to be Takei. After all, the actor’s got a pretty decent log that indicates he’s definitely capable of directing deep space voyages.
