While there’s no new footage in the trailer, the clip mashes up some of the best scenes from Ghost in the Shell thus far. There are few things which can compared to Scarlett Johannson dead-dropping off a skyscraper whilst armed and basically nude. The gritty, tech-filled footage captures the spirt of Masamune’s story, and fans are clearly excited to see Ghost in the Shell when it drops.
Abroad, it looks like Japanese fans are particularly excited for the film to debut. When the full trailer for Ghost in the Shell went live, foreign fans flocked to the Internet to give their thoughts on the footage. On Youtube, fans have flooded the Ghost in the Shell trailer with complimentary comments. “Wow! I wasn’t expecting anything from this live-action version, but I’ll watch this, I really want to see it. Paramount and DreamWorks, this is more than enough to convince me! And Scarlett has just the right feel for it! I take back what I said about this turning out to be a piece of crap,” Afro na Samurai wrote.
“What a difference it makes if you have money. This is a completely different level to Japanese live-action films,” uramasago@K4 said.
Based on Masamune Shirow’s acclaimed manga, Ghost in the Shell is a story that marries hi-tech action and philosophical musings. Ghost in the Shell is directed by Rupert Sanders, from a screenplay written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss. It stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major, Pilou Asbรฆk as Batou, Takeshi Kitano as Chief Daisuke Aramaki, Chin Han as Togusa, Michael Pitt as Kuze, and Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet.
