While it feels like no other actor could pull off Star-Lord like Chris Pratt did in this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we now know that the Parks and Recreation star wasn’t the only comedian on Marvel’s hit list.

Glenn Howerton, from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, was second in line for the starring role. The news comes from journalist Drew Magary, who wrote a profile on Pratt for the December issue of GQ. Sensing that readers just couldn’t wait one more day for the profile’s release (she was right), Magary teased a few fun facts that heย learned on Kinja.
Speaking with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn for the profile, Magary learned that if Pratt hadn’t taken the role, Gunn would have given it to Howerton. “Glenn came along a little bit later, but there was a good chance that, if I didn’t cast Chris, that I would’ve cast Glenn Howerton in the role,” Gunn told Magary. Howerton plays Dennis Reynolds on the FX comedy, a smarmy, conniving individual who generally puts himself above all others. So really, a character notย too different from Star-Lord.
