With slightly over a $100 million opening weekend, Transformers: Age of Extinction still holds the record for biggest opening weekend in 2014 so far. Thanks to its huge opening weekend, Transformers: Age of Extinction also had the highest gross at the U.S. box office through its first ten days of release of any 2014 film.
But that’s not true anymore. Guardians of the Galaxy, which was Marvel Studios biggest gamble yet, now holds the distinction of having out-grossed any other film this year at the U.S. box office during its first ten days.

As of Sunday, Guardians of the Galaxy is projected to have grossed $175,922,000 during its first ten days of release at the U.S. box office. This number is slightly better than the $175,395,954 that Transformers: Age of Extinction grossed during its first ten days of release at the U.S. box office.
Because Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be holding stronger at the box office due to good buzz from both critics and audiences, the film should continue to outpace Transformers: Age of Extinction, which faded somewhat after its initial big opening.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is currently the highest-grossing movie of the year at the U.S. box office with $259 million, and Guardians of the Galaxy seems to b e on pace to out-gross its fellow Marvel Studios release as well.
