The “YouTube House of Horrors: A Legendary Halloween” celebration will see Del Toro offering his advice to YouTube users in the creation of their own short horror films. Beginning September 22, individuals with YouTube channels will be able to your YouTube Spaces, studios maintained by YouTube, to create their film. The Spaces will be outfitted with setse inspired by Del Toro’s films, which each connect to form a larger house.
The Spaces are currently located in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, with a new Space in New York available for use to contestants prior to its official opening in November. Del Toro will offer his creative consultation to the best films from each region.
“I think it is important to find new voices in the genre,” Del Toro said. “Horror is such a unique way to express yourself at the most revealing, intimate levels โ it can come from anywhere: domestic stories, historical research, the world news โย it surrounds us and speaks through us. This is a great channel to see reveal fresh perspectives. Legendary’s Halloween and YouTube are perfect homes for them.”
Legendary is partnering for the contest partly to help support Del Toro’s upcoming film Crimson Peak, similar to how they ran a Godzilla video event prior to the release of Gareth Edwards’ film.
Crimson Peak will hit theaters on October 16, 2015.
