Today is actor Peter Mayhew’s birthday.

Though most may not recognize his face, Mayhew played one of the most iconic movie characters of all time: Chewbacca. As Star Wars‘ top Wookie, Mayhew played Chewbacca in Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Though 10 years have passed since he last wore the furry suit, Mayhew will once again reprise the Chewbacca role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December.
Born in London, England, Mayhew turns 71 today. Happy Birthday, Peter Mayhew.
