Though Crowe is an Academy Award winning-actor known for several memorable performances, comic book fans will best recognize him as Superman’s father, Jor-El, in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. As Kal-El’s Kryptonian father, Crowe’s Jor-El had a memorable scene in Man of Steel’s opening act, and then lived on as a digital projection later in the film.
Crowe is also known for his career-defining role in Gladiator, for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor. Crowe also held memorable roles in Les Miserables, Robin Hood, Cinderella Man, Noah, and A Beautiful Mind. He can be seen next in Jackson Healy’s The Nice Guys.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Crowe turns 52 today. Happy Birthday, Russell Crowe.
