Blaine heads to the walk-in freezer, where they’re keeping Major. He won’t tell them anything, but Blaine reminds him that time is on his (Blaine’s) side.
At the morgue, Theresa has been brought in, bludgeoned to death. They say that Cameron was meeting Theresa at the hotel, and that she was supposed to bring Sebastian’s “stuff.” They found some of Cameron’s blood on a hotel pillow, so they’re worried he’s in immediate danger, too.
Clive puts out an APB for Cameron anyway. Liv takes a little of Theresa’s brains in a sandwich. Meanwhile, the newest zombie rat is now apparently cured. Liv wants to take the cure before it’s proven to be safe, saying that she can’t stand what she’s become, but Ravi tells her that they only have one or two doses and they’re out of tainted utopium. He says that it’s vital they’re able to cure all the other zombies, too. Liv reluctantly agrees.
Liv gets a vision while looking at the rat — Theresa was retrieving Sebastian’s wallet. Liv realizes that it’s actually about getting the Max Rager thumb drive back — they were offering to pay the kids off, and are now killing witnesses.
At Max Rager, Vaughan is introducing his new chief of research to the job by showing him video of Sebastian murdering his predecessor. Liv and Clive come to see them. They lead Vaughan to believe that Sebastian may be the suspect and then spring on him that Liv killed Sebastian last night.
Clive gets a call, and the leave abruptly to go look for Cameron.
At Meat Cute, Blaine goes to talk to Major in the freezer. He says that Nazi research has given him everything he needs to keep Major alive and in pain indefinitely.
At Max Rager, Vaughan tells the doctor that they’re going to launch a new, improved formula for Max Rager that will effectively make sleep obsolete in those who use it. He wants the zombie problem isolated and removed from the formula — and Max Rager will take out the zombies.
At a gas station, Cameron is spotted on security camera buying two hot dogs and two drinks, mouting “help me” to the camera.
Ravi meets Liv and Clive at the police station, saying that he found billiard balls in a dumpster behind the motel. They were apparently put in a pillow case and used to kill Theresa. They hear that Cameron made a 911 call, and that his phone is still sending out a traceable signal. They follow the signal to where it cuts out — in a car crusher at the dump.
At Meat Cute, Blaine brings Major some soup. After gobbling some up, Major realizes that there’s brains in the soup and spits it out. Blaine brings in Tommy, one of the Helton Shelter kids, and Major tries to go after him and gets knocked down for his troubles.
At the dump, a bloodhound finds a mangled cell phone. Clive doesn’t understand what’s going on. They check a traffic camera and realize that Cameron was driving himself. He killed his bandmates so that he didn’t have to share the money from Max Rager.
In a diner, he sees a homeless man who’s offering to wash windshields. He gives the man $10 to keep an eye on his car. He enters and meets a red-headed woman who gives him a bag of money and takes the thumb drive.
Outside the diner, the homeless man waves Cameron off, indicating he shouldn’t go in his car. When a cop walks up to the vehicle to check it out, a bomb goes off.
Liv and Clive talk to the homeless man, who tells them that he turned his back on the car for a second and when he looked back, somebody was sliding out from under it. He says that Cameron had a backpack when he left, and they start to widen their search for Cameron. He’s on a bus that’s about to be stopped by Canadian customs; he tries to get off the bus, saying that he urgently needs to use the bathroom, and it almost works but the second of two cops recognizes him.
In interrogation, Liv and Clive pin down Cameron, who wants a deal to talk. When they don’t respond, he offers a copy of the drive to sweeten the pot. Clive has a better idea: He’ll release Cameron and have their press liaison say that he was cooperative, and then let whoever put the bomb in his car find him. He breaks, telling them that they had received a text from Kimber after she died. They were offered $300,000 for the drive. He said that he killed the first of his friends for refusing to go along with the plan, and then Theresa for going to the police.
On the drive, Clive finds all of Rebecca’s research, including an ad for SuperMax. She heads downstairs to talk to Ravi, wondering what the next step in Max Rager’s evolution would do to people.
Ravi isn’t there when Liv gets to the basement, and she gets a call from Ravi, asking about Major. He hasn’t seen either Major or Peyton. Liv says she’ll reach out to Major. She’s about to cure herself when she gets a call from “Major,” which turns out to be Blaine, telling her that he’ll let Major live if she brings him the astronaut brains. She says that she’ll bring the brains, and asks where.
Liv brings the brains to Blaine, who brings out a bound and hooded figure he passes off as Major. It isn’t, but Blaine gets away before Liv can do anything about it.
In the freezer, Major has peed on the floor and then started a fire. When one of the zombie goons comes in to check on what’s going on, he slips on the frozen pee and Major knocks him in the head with a giant piece of meat and then escapes, closing the door behind him.
He runs outside and gets his guns and grenade out of his trunk while the others are distracted by music they were playing to drown out the sound of meat being cut with a table saw.
He guns down all of the zombies but Julien and the chef; the chef begs for her life, saying it was only a job, but when she tries to attack Major he pushes her into the saw.He shoots the man who had been locked in the freezer.
On the street, Suzuki gets a call from dispatch about a possible shooting at Meat Cute. He says he’ll take it. Julien enters the restaurant and, after going into the freezer to investigate what’s going on, Major locks him in there with the grenade. As he turns to go, Blaine stabs him in the gut and then, surveying the damage, tells him he hopes his death hurts.
Liv arrives, shooting Blaine in the side. He says that she can’t kill him because his food service keeps the zombie apocalypse at bay. Major calls out to her, and she goes to him, but he’s dying. He is willing to die if she stays there with him, and he’s vindicated by the fact that there’s zombies. Blaine outs Liv as a zombie to Major, and then tells them that tomorrow, Blaine will see to it that Major is blamed for the slaughter. He says he’ll make more of his crew and customers if they kill them, but Liv stabs him with a cure needle, telling him he’s their guinea pig now. He says that if there’s a zombie apocalypse, assume he died, and leaves. As Major dies, Liv scratches his neck.
Suzuki comes to Meat Cute and finds the carnage, calls it in the police to say it’s all clear.
At Liv’s house, she’s serving Major some soup, and telling him the basics of being a zombie. He’s mad at her for all the lying she’s done lately, and for turning him into a zombie without his permission. She tells him that she knows him, and knows that he would have stayed with him for life anyway. She tells Major about helping the police, and he asks what will help him sleep at night. She offers that they can be together now that all the cards are on the table. He says that if she really knew him, she wouldn’t have turned him into a zombie without his permission.
At Meat Cute, Suzuki stages the crime scene a bit before shooting himself and writing Blaine’s name on the wall in his blood. He turns on the gas jets in all of the ovens and fumbles with a lighter to blow the building.
Outside, Liv’s brother shows up for work, and sees the bloodbath inside only briefly before he’s caught in the blast.
Ravi gets the newspaper and sees that Liv has spilled all of Max Rager’s secrets, now on the front page. Vaughan isn’t worried.
At the crime scene, Clive recognizes Julien’s shoes and tells a beat cop to pick up Major and test him for gunshot residue.
At home, Liv gives the last of the cure to Major, saying that whatever happens, she hopes he can forgive her — because humanity won’t. She gets a call from her mother, and goes to see her brother in the hospital. He needs blood, and she’s the only matching donor…but she tells them she won’t do it.
