Johnny Knoxville is working with NBC on a television adaptation of B. Clay Moore and Steven Griffin’s crime comic Hawaiian Dick, according to THR.
Hawaiian Dick follows a mainland detective named Byrd who is reassigned to duty in Hawaii, and quickly finds himself immersed in the dark side of paradise. The series has seen three volume so far, with a fourth planned for 2016.

The TV adaptation is described as a “comedic action series,” mixing “procedural, humor and supernatural elements.” Paul Lovett & David Elliott (GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra) are writing the script and will executive produce, along with Knoxville, 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, David Janollari (Six Feet Under) and Eric Gitter (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). The project is being produced by Universal Television.
Knoxville has been trying to adapt Hawaiian Dick for over a decade. New Line optioned the rights in 2004, and renewed those rights in 2006, but a film was never made.
