TriStar Pictures has released the first official trailer to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s 2015 nonfiction drama, The Walk.

Directed by Back To The Future’s Robert Zemeckis, The Walk tells the true story of French high wire artist Philippe Petit’s illegal attempt to cross the World Trade Center towers in 1974. The film is an adaptation of Pettit’s written account of the event, “To Reach The Clouds.” Gordon-Levitt will play the role of Petit, while Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, and James Badge Dale round out the headlining cast as Petit’s fellow performers and friends.

In the trailer, Petit walks across the roof of the 110-storied building and gazes into the abyss below. But the height doesn’t scare him. Stepping out onto a jutting I-beam, with only inches of steel separating him from gravity’s pull, Petit closes his eyes and pictures the task ahead.

“When it comes time to step on the wire—and take you where only one human being in history has gone, and no one will ever be again—[Zemeckis] does it in visual ways that abso-****ing-lutely blow your mind,” TriStar Studio Chairman Tom Rothman told Entertainment Weekly. “There are shots in the third act of this film that literally take your breath away.”

Check out the trailer below.

The Walk hits theaters on October 2nd, 2015.
