After The LEGO Movie generated $469.2 million at the worldwide box office in 2014, Warner Bros. had the confidence to begin developing a LEGO film franchise, and with Ninjago, the ninja-inspired line of building sets and minifigures, being so popular, it was a no brainer to adapt it into an animated 3D film.

Last week, at the studio’s Licensing Expo 2016 presentation, WB apparently revealed the voice cast, synopsis, and several other details about their LEGO Ninjago movie. An image of that portion of the presentation has leaked online and can be viewed here.

According to the image, the voice cast will feature Jackie Chan (Rush Hour, The Karate Kid) as Master Wu, Dave Franco (Now You See Me, 21 Jump Street) as Lloyd, Michael Peรฑa (Ant-Man, End of Watch) as Kai, Abbi Jacobson (Broad City, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) as Nya, Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, Life As We Know It) as Jay, Zach Woods (Silicon Valley, The Office) as Zane and Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Portlandia) as Cole.

The film’s synopsis:

Inspired by the wildly popular LEGO line of toys, Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skill and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens, strugglings against their greatest enemy: high school.

The film will be directed by Charlie Bean (TV’s “Tron: Uprising”), marking his feature directorial debut. It is being produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller wrote and directed the smash hit “The LEGO Movie,” which was produced by Lin and Lee. Jill Wilfert, Seth Grahame-Smith, John Powers Middleton, James Packer and Steve Mnuchin are serving as executive producers. The screenplay is written by Bryan Shukoff and Kevin Chesley.

The LEGO Ninjago movie will be released on September 22, 2017.
