The company announced today that Singh, who started his career at IGN and Comic Book Resources before working for Marvel from 2007 until 2015, will report to Filip Sablik, president of publishing and marketing, while overseeing all day-to-day aspects of marketing, communications, and social media, in addition to brand development and new corporate initiatives.
The BOOM! Studios marketing team includes Mel Caylo, Marketing Manager, and Stephanie Hocutt, Social Media Coordinator.
During his time at Marvel, Singh led the communications team through major launches including the introduction of Miles Morales, the marriage of Northstar and his longtime partner in Astonishing X-Men, and events like Avengers vs X-Men. In 2013, he was promoted to executive director, TV communications and led the publicity launch of Marvel Television with series including Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Marvel’s Daredevil, and more.
“Since I was a kid, there’s no medium I’ve loved as much as graphic fiction and I’m thrilled to re-enter the industry with BOOM! Studios,” said Singh. “From titles like Lumberjanes to Klaus to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, BOOM! is creating premiere storytelling that truly brings new voices and readers to comic shops, with an unparalleled team of people behind the scenes who represent the future of the entertainment industry.”
The Singh acquisition is the latest in a series of major personnel moves for BOOM! Studios: Kate Henning, formerly of Diamond Comic Distributors and IDW Publishing, has been hired as Operations Manager. Dafna Pleban, who has been with the company since 2009, has been promoted to Editor, Talent Development. Alex Galer, who has developed successes like Big Trouble in Little China, Bill & Ted, and Power Rangers for BOOM!, has been promoted to Associate Editor. Cameron Chittock, who has been instrumental to the success of Mouse Guard and came to BOOM! in 2013 when they acquired Archaia, has been promoted to Associate Editor. Stephanie Hocutt, a familiar face to fans as the social media personality behind BOOM!’s Tumblr and YouTube presences, has been promoted to Social Media Coordinator. Michelle Ankley, who joined the company in 2013 and has worked on projects like Irredeemable, The Baker Street Peculiars, and Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy, has been promoted to Production Designer.

“This was the biggest year for BOOM! Studios in our history,” Sablik said. “We’re excited to announce the addition and development of key personnel who will all play critical roles in delivering what we believe will be an even bigger 2017.”
More than bluster, there’s a little math behind Sablik’s claims: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is one of BOOM!’s biggest launches ever, and has been one of the comics industry’s biggest releases of the year, withmore than a million units moved already. BOOM! staple Lumberjanes, recently optioned for the big screen, passed 500,000 units as well, and BOOM! had their first-ever #1 best-seller in the Diamond Comic Distributors Top 100 list with Big Trouble in Little China/Escape From New York #1. They also broke into one of the biggest licenses in the world with WWE comics.
