While they initially stated that she could be up for Black Panther or Captain Marvel they later add that “Insiders suggest that Black Panther,” which will star Chadwick Boseman (42), “is the most likely possibility.”

Back in February, DuVernay was asked by HitFix if she would have any interest directing a Marvel film if the studio pursued her. “I’m not a big comic book fan,” she admitted, “but I know I love to deconstruct heroes, deconstruct myths. I probably want to do some origin story. You know, where you get to the core of it before they get their powers.”

Black Panther is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 6, 2018 and Captain Marvel lands in theaters November 2, 2018.
