Glee and Whiplash actress Melissa Benoist won the coveted lead role in CBS’ Supergirl, and in a recent interview she shares what excites her about the part. “What’s so wonderful about her is that she is such a relatable character, amongst her powers,” Benoist told CBR at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. “What I’m the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that’s something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives – I’m really excited about that.”

Benoist didn’t share any details about her suit, but she did share how she felt a bit intimidated when she looked upon the skimpy Supergirl costume from the comic books. “It’s a little daunting,” she laughed. “It’s daunting, but that’s good. I like being pushed. I work well under pressure.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly caught up with Nashville actress Laura Benanti and asked her about her new role as Supergirl’s biological mother Alura Zor-El. “It’s very early on, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying anything other than our mere nine-year age difference will make sense,” Benanti said. “On Krypton age doesn’t necessarily matter. A lot of people on Twitter were like, “She’s too young to be her mom!” But it will all make sense once you see the show.”
