A new teaser image for Assassin’s Creed was released Monday by 20th Century Fox, showing off Michael Fassbender as Aguilar, the Spanish Assassin at the time of the Inquisition, alongside another Assassin (Octavia Selena Alexandru’s Lara? It’s unconfirmed, but that’s the suspicion) on a Spanish rooftop. They look off in the distance, clearly anticipating something…

And that something is a new trailer. The trailer will debut online tomorrow, Fox revealed, with a new look at the Assassin’s Creed film, and likely some deeper plot teases after a teaser trailer that didn’t tell non-franchise fans much about how the world of the movie and games works.

Based off the popular Ubisoft video game series, Assassin’s Creed does not adapt any of the many games. Instead, it tells the story of a brand-new assassin set in that same world as the games, comics, and novels that have built the world up so far. The war between Assassins and Templars has been raging for centuries, and through a device called the Animus, modern day society can tap into their ancestral memories, actively living out the life of those that came before them (and revealing hidden secrets in time).

Fassbender stars in the dual roles of Callum Lynch in the modern day and Aguilar, his assassin ancestor. Directed by Justin Kurzel, Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard – the three worked together on last year’s Macbeth film, as well.

“Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th-century Spain,” the synopsis reads. “Callum discovers he is a descendant from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”

A teaser gif was also posted by the Assassin’s Creed movie account showing the famous “Leap of Faith” with the quote: “They are like eagles. Truly free… the fall feels like a flight.”

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters December 21, 2016. See the full teaser image, along with previously released images from the film, in the gallery below.
