Earlier today, fans were sent into an uproar over a Deadline report that Nintendo would begin charging users $12.99 per month. According to the report, which was quickly retracted, Nintendo was going to begin charging users to compensate for the overwhelming response and load on their servers.

Deadline’s “source” was actually a scam email, being sent around in the hopes of luring fans to a website to enter their credit card information. While Variety, another entertainment website, pointed out that this was just the latest in a series of scams designed to prey on Pokemon Go players, Deadline fell for the email hook, line, and sinker.

Pokemon Go did recently release an app update to fix some log-in and privacy issues, but there was no pay wall to play.

ComicBook.com has reached out to Nintendo for comment.

Pokemon Go is out in the United States, Australia and New Zealand and remains free to play.
