Earlier today at San Diego Comic-Con, Open Road Films held a panel for their upcoming film Snowden, based on the life and ascension of former NSA analyst Edward Snowden.
The panel was attended by stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Edward Snowden) and Shailene Woodley (Lindsay Mills), along with legendary director Oliver Stone, who is making his first ever appearance at the popular convention. Snowden is his first project since 2012, and the film seems to have some positive buzz surrounding it.

Snowden tells the story of how the controversial figure came to work for the NSA, and how later he was accused of treason when he released thousands of classified government documents to the press. The figure is quite polarizing, with some declaring him a traitor and some appreciating how he exposed government secrets. The film is based on Luke Harding’s The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man and Anatoly Kucherena’s Time of the Octopus.
In addition to the new trailer, a new viral marketing campaign was also unveiled, called Protect Yourself. You can upload a photo from your camera or from Facebook, and apply a black bandage to it. Doing so will take a stand for privacy and freedom, or so the site says. You can check that out here.
You can view the newest trailer for Snowden above, which releases into theatres on September 16th.
