Matt Smith will make his musical theater debut as Patrick Bateman in an adaptation of American Psycho, reports the BBC.The production will run at London’s Almeida Theatre from December 3 to January 25 of next year.The show will be directed by the Almeida’s artistic director, Rupert Goold, who developed the musical. Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik has collaborated with Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark‘s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to adapt the book for the stage.Aguirre-Sacasa has experience writing comic books as well, notably Afterlife With Archie and The Stand (based on Stephen King’s novel) for Marvel Comics. He’s also worked on Fox’s Glee and that show’s comic book crossover with Archie and the Riverdale gang.Smith wrapped filming on the Doctor Who Christmas Special, in which he will “regenerate’ into Peter Capaldi and leave the series, yesterday. It’s expected that later today the BBC will announce a number of previously-unavailable classic Doctor Who episodes have been found and will be made available for download.American Psycho, a 1991 novel, was adapted to the screen in 2000, starring The Dark Knight‘s Christian Bale.
