Director J.J. Abrams revealed to EW that Leia Organa will no longer be referred to by the title “princess” in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“She’s referred to as General,” Abrams says. “But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.’”
Leia was already a high ranking member of the Rebellion in the original trilogy, and she’s been seen almost exclusively in a war room setting in footage and images from the new movie so far, so her being a general makes sense.
