Deadpool has had a strange gestation period as far as movies go. A script was written, test footage made, but then the project just sat on the shelf at Twentieth Century Fox for four years. It was only after the test footage mysteriously leaked to the public and was met with a huge fan reaction that Fox finally pushed the film into production.

Star Ryan Reynolds was a guest on The Tonight Show, where he explained the whole process to host Jimmy Fallon, even hinting that he may have some idea who was responsible for the leak.
“I know that one of us did it,” Reynolds said. “There’s four of us. There’s me, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Tim Miller, the director. One of us did it. We all sort of said at the beginning, ‘Someone should leak it. Someone should leak it’โฆbut I’m 70 percent sure it wasn’t me.”
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapiฤiฤ, and Leslie Uggams.
