For those who don’t know, Burning Man is a a week-long annual live music and alt-culture event that began in 1986 and has become a major destination for fans and bands alike. More than 50,000 fans attend annually, and the event (like Comic-Con) is officially run by a nonprofit established just to manage it.
The Ignition Festival will take place October 15-17, reports Live For Live Music:
The theme of the festival is “Chewburnitall” and much like Burning Man, the event will feature music and DIY art installations, as well as two giant sculptures created for a ceremonial burning: a wooden alligator called the MechaGator, and a wicker version of a Wookiee (sketch pictured above).
The festival will reportedly take place on the site of a former warehouse that was destroyed by fire in 1996. Management is quoted as saying that the festival will be closely monitored by the New Orleans Fire Department.
