Ever since Selma director Ava DuVernay took her name out of consideration for Marvel’s Black Panther, F. Gary Gray (Friday, The Italian Job) has been suggested by many as a logical choice. Which makes sense since Gray had reportedly been on Marvel’s shortlist in 2012 to helm Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but opted to take his name out of the running to work on Straight Outta Compton.
While promoting his N.W.A. biopic the self-taught filmmaker was asked about rumors linking him to Black Panther and if he has interest in directing a superhero movie.
