Straight Outta Compton Director F. Gary Gray Responds To Black Panther Rumors

Ever since Selma director Ava DuVernay took her name out of consideration for Marvel’s Black Panther, F. Gary Gray (Friday, The Italian Job) has been suggested by many as a logical choice. Which makes sense since Gray had reportedly been on Marvel’s shortlist in 2012 to helm Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but opted to take his name out of the running to work on Straight Outta Compton.

While promoting his N.W.A. biopic the self-taught filmmaker was asked about rumors linking him to Black Panther and if he has interest in directing a superhero movie. After a slight chuckle he told BlackTree TV, “I would love to direct a superhero movie. We’ll see what happens. If it’s right, I’m there.”

Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman (Captain America: Civil War, 42), is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 6, 2018.
