And, as sometimes happens when Lord is around, there was a supervillain attack.

And, as sometimes happens when Lord is around, I suspect that Reactron’s attacks were carefully orchestrated by Lord, to push his agenda.

Just last week on Supergirl, Lord was saying that National City didn’t need Metropolis’s problems — that Superman’s enemies had made The Big Apricot a more dangerous place — and look what happens next: one of Superman’s enemies not only comes to National City, but targets Lord specifically.

This is a guy who runs around blasting first and asking questions later, and yet he takes Lord hostage, he doesn’t hurt him after Lord is no longer of any use to him — despite being in constant danger, a hair is never out of place on Max’s head — and then Reactron hesitates rather than blasting Lord when he has a chance at Cat Grant’s party.

Why?

Well, if you’ll recall, Maxwell Lord has been known to stage supervillain attacks to push his agenda. He got Booster Gold into the Justice League by hiring the Royal Flush Gang and targeting his OWN TEAM, then setting Booster up to swoop in and save the day.

While under the influence of a computer that used New Gods technology, Lord set up a disturbed would-be terrorist as a villain for the League to defeat, resulting in the man’s death. Per the DC Wiki, The would-be terrorist believed he had a bomb connected to his heartbeat, but in fact, Max had disconnected it.

For a guy whose life was almost constantly in danger, Lord spent this episode of Supergirl pretty calm. Suspiciously calm. Even Cat, who has a history with Max, questioned his decision to show up at her party just hours after he was taken hostage by a supervillain. So what would drive him to do that? Well, maybe if he had a REASON to be there…!
