The Avengers tops The Dark Knight Rises as most anticipated summer movie

Cue the outrage among Dark Knight Rises fan, but Fandango has just released the results of a poll that put The Avengers ahead of The Dark Rises in regards to most anticipated 2012 summer movies. According to the poll results, 31% of Men picked The Avengers as the most anticipated summer movie, which put The Avengers in the top spot. The Dark Knight Rises finished in the number two spot with 23% of the vote.As far as the women, they were somewhat in agreement in ranking superhero flicks. Snow White and the Huntsman took the number one spot with 22% of the vote, while The Avengers finished in second place with 16% of the vote. The Dark Knight Rises fell all the way to fourth place with 10% of the vote.Since the poll was conducted recently, the argument could be made that The Avengers had an advantage since they are in full promotional mode, while The Dark Knight Rises has barely begun marketing. More surprising than The Avengers edging out The Dark Knight Rises though were the other results on the poll. Men In Black 3 had a surprisingly strong showing, finishing #4 on the men’s list and #3 on the women’s list. We’re looking forward to Men In Black 3 as well, but we were shocked to see it beat The Dark Knight Rises on the women’s list. Also, noticeable absent from either list is The Amazing Spider-Man.The Avengers also racked up some other accolades in the Fandango poll, being selected as the most anticipated 3D movie and most anticipated ensemble cast. Fandango voters even picked Black Widow to win in a fight over Catwoman. This isn’t the first poll that Fandango has done for 2012 movies, as they asked the similar question earlier this year without the seasonal factor. In the earlier poll, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey topped the list for guys, while The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 topped the list for girls. However, even in the earlier poll, The Avengers came out ahead of The Dark Knight Rises in regards to most anticipated 2012 blockbusters. The Avengers took the #2 spot with men and #5 spot with women, while The Dark Knight Rises finished #3 with men and didn’t show up on the women’s list. Here’s the full Fandango lists:Men’s Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie: 1.”The Avengers” 31% 2.”The Dark Knight Rises” 23% 3.”The Bourne Legacy” 14% 4.”Men in Black 3″ 8% 5.”Prometheus” 7%Women’s Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie: 1.”Snow White and the Huntsman” 22% 2.”The Avengers” 16% 3.”Men in Black 3″ 13% 4.”The Dark Knight Rises” 10% 5.”Dark Shadows” 8%
