Despite facing stiff competition from some new releases, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continued to rule the box office on Christmas Day. For Wednesday, December 25, 2013, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug took in $9.32 million, which was good enough for first place at the U.S. box office.New release The Wolf of Wall Street was a very close second, bringing in $9.15 million at the U.S. box office. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues took third place with $8.1 million. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which was another new release, took fourth place with $7.825 million.Besides The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, other new releases included 47 Ronin and Grudge Match. 47 Ronin finished in sixth place with $7 million, while Grudge Match took ninth place with $3.965 million.To date, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has accumulated $149.9 million at the U.S. box office and $426.2 million at the worldwide box office.
