Just when you thought The Walking Dead couldn’t possibly get any more relentless, one of its core cast members comes along and drops hype for an episode months away.

Speaking to Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron on the hit zombie drama, it sounds like The Walking Dead‘s season six finale will be one for the ages.

“I was just talking to Andy [Lincoln] about [the finale] the other day and I looked at him because I hadn’t seen him since I read it and I said, ‘What’d ya think?’ We both literally just threw our hands up in the air and we were like, ‘This is the craziest thing ever, right?’” Marquand said of episode 6×16.

“I think it’s probably the most wrought, like emotionally wrought, and dark episode I’ve ever read, regardless of this show or not,” the actor says. “I’ve never seen or read an episode that is so dark and so compelling in my life and that’s the God’s honest truth. I told Andy, I don’t normally get so affected by scripts that I have to put them down, but I had to stop reading this at three different times. I couldn’t read it, it was messing me up. It was tough to read. It’s phenomenal writing but it’s just so emotionally dark and twisted that we had to put it down several times.”

While he didn’t say anything about Negan specifically, the long-awaited character’s introduction sure fits the “emotionally wrought,” category, but who knows – The Walking Dead has had plenty of other comic-to-TV-variation tricks up its sleeve in the past. There is still a certain character due for a little … facelift … soon.

“We start shooting next week and I cannot wait to see this thing put together and fully realized because it is… I literally put it up there with, like, Usual Suspects,” Marquand claims. That’s a pretty high bar. “I mean, it’s that good. It’s so, so well done. Now, I just feel like it’s our job to make the script come to life and now it’s just our job to kick ass and make it really pop. The script is so phenomenal that I think if everyone is just doing their jobs, it’s gonna be one of the most talked about episodes, ever.”

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
