Almost a year ago, Tom Hardy exited David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie. He would be replaced by Joel Kinneman in the Rick Flag role but we haven’t forgotten his original involvement with the project.

Neither has Hardy.

“That got derailed for me,” Hardy tells Variety of his scheduling conflict with The Revenant and Suicide Squad. “Was I bummed? Of course I was. I hate f—ing losing work. I kept bemoaning that they were losing me significant money on a daily basis. Actually, it was good for my character.”

So, like all actors would, Hardy hated dropping out of Suicide Squad because it cost him a nice payday. That’s not to say he didn’t also look forward to the role because of what else it offered. Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight trilogy, so he must enjoy comic book movies enough to have signed on for another.

Now that Rick Flag is taken, what other comic book role, hero or villain, would you like to see Tom Hardy play in the future?

The Revenant opens in select theaters on December 25. Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
