That’s because Hardy will reportedly produce and possibly star in 100 Bullets, a film adaptation of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s acclaimed Vertigo series. New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment, will develop the film. This would be New Line’s first stab at a Vertigo film, after news broke this year that the studio would oversee all movies based on the DC Comics imprint.
The film is reportedly well into development, with a script by Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes) already completed. Geoff Johns and Adam Schlagman will oversee the film for DC, and Richard Brenner Walter, Hamada, and Dave Neustadter will take charge for New Line.
While the adaptation’s exact plot is still under wraps, it will likely follow 100’s Bullets’ overarching premise. In 100 Bullets, which ran for 100 issues,a man named Agent Graves bestows people with a gun and 100 untraceable bullets, giving them the opportunity to seek vengeance on those who ruined their lives.
Hardy, who played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and starred in this year’s Mad Max: Fury Road, will produce, and is currently considering a starring role. The latter of the two roles, however, is up in the air, The Hollywood Reporter notes.
New Line is also working on a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comic series, with Joseph Gordon Levitt (also of Dark Knight Rises fame) tapped to star and direct.
