Action Lab Entertainment’s Tomboy, which we’ve described as one of the best new series in years, is losing its artist.

Mia Goodwin, the creator/writer/artist of the series, will step down as artist and be replaced by Michelle Wong, due to health problems.
The series’ upcoming sixth issue, solicited for June, will be delayed until July as a result of the change.
Goodwin made the announcement via the Tomboy social media accounts, which you can see below.
So, let’s talk about the bad thing.
Issue #6 has been pushed back, most likely from a June release until July. We don’t have the exact release date as of yet, but once we do, it will be posted across the Tomboy social media sites.
This was not a planned hiatus, nor is it desirable—I’m not a fan of breaks either. It was an extremely painful decision to push the issue back a month, but recent health concerns this spring finally came to a head while I was working on the next issue. Rather than let the quality and speed drop, or risk greater delays, we’re putting #6 back a month so that another artist can step in and take over for me.
As such, going forward, the artwork on Tomboy will be handled by the very talented Michelle Wong. Michelle’s colors have been gracing the pages since issue #3, and her own penciling and inking skills are beautiful. I have the utmost confidence in her ability to make the pages shine in a way I cannot at the present time.
I will still be handling the writing, remaining covers, lettering and helping out with the layouts and character design for the new players soon to make their appearances, and the story will continue on until it finishes as it was originally intended to—I just won’t be drawing it any longer.
It’s hard to explain how difficult this decision is a weird little book that’s been sitting around in my head for the last ten years, and quite frankly, I never thought I’d see the chance to publish it. Issue #6 in particular. Drawing this series has been a joy.
Ultimately, however, I only have one body (until they release the robot replacements, anyway) and much as I hate to admit it, right now, it’s down for the count.
I hope everyone who has been reading Tomboy will welcome Michelle as our new artist with open arms, and I truly hope you enjoy issue 6 when it’s released.
