Up Close with Hasbro Star Wars: The Force Awakens Toys Big and Small

Hasbro held a behind-the-scenes event today in New York, letting select fans and press young and old come and play with a bunch of their brand new Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys. There were micromachines (like the one in the header), and full size vehicles. They had a Nerf First Order Stormtrooper blaster (complete with Resistance target firing range). The new high-end Kylo Ren lightsaber has some real heft to it – it’s clearly designed to be used with two hands, something George Lucas originally intended for all lightsabers (um, don’t tell Ahsoka, Ventress, Sidious, or any of the other dual wielders). Hasbro’s version of a remote control BB-8 was on display; it’s considerably lower tech than Sphero’s, but it looks like it’ll be fun for those on a budget. Hasbro even made a new Star Wars Monopoly, complete with both original trilogy (Luke and Vader) and Force Awakens (Kylo Ren and Finn) characters to play with.
