“They already have the deepest bromance in movies today,” Maguire said of Franco and Rogen in a series of tweets in which he put together a cast for an imaginary Justice League International movie. You can check out the full list below (via CBR).
- Seth Rogen as Blue Beetle
- James Franco as Booster Gold
- Jon Hamm as Maxwell Lord
- Tom Hardy as Guy Gardner
- Joe Manganiello as Batman
- Jim Carrey as the Elongated Man
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Sue Dibney
- Alice Eve as Power Girl
- Milana Vayntrub as Mary Marvel
- Patrick Warburton as Captain Marvel
- Beyonce as Fire
- Elizabeth Olsen as Ice
- Dwayne Johnson as Martian Manhunter
- Johnny Depp as Mister Miracle
- Gwendoline Christie as Big Barda
- Viggo Mortensen as Captain Atom
- Danny De Vito as Oberon
- Yvonne Strahovski as Black Canary
- Andy Serkis as G’Nort
- Trace Beaulieu as L-Ron
Some of these names would be incredibly hard sells, of course; Hamm has already expressed his lack of interest in any kind of long-term deal, so in order to get him, Warner Bros. might have to turn Maxwell Lord evil and/or kill him right away…something that surely wouldn’t fit with a Kevin Maguire version of the film. Batman has already been cast in the current DC Cinematic Universe, and Tom Hardy is going to play Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, Dwayne Johnson is Black Adam in Shazam and both Elizabeth Olsen and Andy Serikis are committed to Marvel.
This isn’t the first time Maguire has fan-cast the movie; two years ago, he took to Twitter to suggest a cast that would have featured Ant-Man star Paul Rudd as Blue Beetle and Justin Timberlake as Booster Gold.
“If I were making a JLI movie right now, here’s who I’d cast: Sam Hamm as Maxwell Lord; Paul Rudd as Blue Beetle; Justin Timberlake as Booster Gold; Jeremy Renner as Guy Gardner; Scott Adkins as Batman; The Rock as Martian Manhunter; Rachel MacAdams as Black Canary; Patrick Warburton as Captain Marvel; Peter Dinklage as Oberon,” wrote Maguire at the time.
Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are currently appearing in Justice League 3000, a title written by Maguire’s Justice League International collaborators Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. Maguire was originally attached to the series but was replaced by Howard Porter before the first issue was completed.
Maguire is working on a creator-owned project as well as doing freelance work for Marvel and DC.
