Viola Davis recently spoke about those unconfirmed reports casting her as Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. And while she didn’t confirm an official involvement with the DC Comics film, she certainly didn’t dispel the rumors either.
While doing press for her next project, Black Hat, Davis was asked if she was reading any Suicide Squad comic book in preparation for the role.

“”I have not started reading them yet,” she responded. “I’ve read up about her but I’m working out my schedule for Suicide Squad.”
While it’s not the official confirmation that many fans were probably hoping for, it does show that Davis must still be in talks with Warner Bros. In fact, she revealed in the same discussion with Nerd Report just how fascinated she was with the Suicide Squad’s morally-gray character, saying that she’s excited to delve into her psychology.
“I’m fascinated by her. I’m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction, She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will,” David said. “I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun.”
It’s hard to think that Davis would psych herself up that much about Amanda Waller unless she knew that the part was hers. Given her wishful thinking, it’s probably safe to assume that she and Warner Bros. are nearing a deal, but haven’t officially signed anything yet.
Amanda Waller’s role is the only major casting piece still missing in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. It was announced late last year that Will Smith, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne would bring DC’s band of mercenaries and villains to life.
Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th, 2016.
