Walking Dead Season Four Premiere Does Every Crazy Idea in the Series to Date

Greg Nicotero

Special effects legend and Emmy Award-winner Greg Nicotero will direct the Season Four premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead.Speaking with the official AMC blog about it, Nicotero said that the upcoming premiere, which is expected to air in October, will give fans a taste of just about every crazy thing he’s done so far with special effects, all in one show.”In the first episode this season, one of the guys in my crew was like, ‘You did every gag that you ever did in three years of The Walking Dead in one episode.’ We had walkers. We had mummified corpses. We had puppets. We had zombie bites… There was even a couple of gags that we came up with on the fly — there was a couple of sculptures that my guys in Los Angeles had done and I said, ‘Oh yeah, that’s a great walker.’ Where people are like, ‘What are the iconic walkers for season four going to be?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’ll just have to see!’”One such iconic walker in season three was Dawn of the Dead‘s “airport zombie,” who made an appearance in the season’s game-changing penultimate episode. We talked to Josh Marich, who played that zombie, back in the spring.
