The Scalped pilot is described as “a modern-day crime story set in the world of a Native American Indian reservation. It explores power, loyalty and spirituality in a community led by the ambitious chief Lincoln Red Crow as he reckons with Dashiell Bad Horse, who has returned home after years away from the reservation.”
Banshee‘s Doug Jung will pen the script and executive produce the DC/Vertigo adaptation. DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, who has a hand in all of their TV offerings including iZombie, Lucifer and Preacher, is attached to executive produce the drama, with WGN America is reportedly hoping for an all-Native American cast.
The series, loosely inspired by the arrest of Native American activist Leonard Peltier for the murder of two FBI agents in 1975, was first published by Vertigo in 2007. Aaron has gone on to write a number of big hits, both creator-owned and work-for-hire, since.
With the rise of comics in the mainstream media since 2008 and the acclaim garnered by Scalped, as well as Aaron’s profile at Marvel, there have been rumors of a film or TV adaptation of Scalped almost since the series launched.
