Paramount struck first by calling attention to their record-breaking $5.17 Billion worldwide box office take. It was enough billions to put Paramount in number one place among all the studios for 2011.Comic book movies played a big role in getting Paramount to the top. Paramount was the distribution partner for Marvel Studios on Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. While technically not a comic book movie but rather a toy based movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon crossed over a billion dollars by itself in worldwide gross for Paramount. Ironically, Warner Bros. might have even played a role in helping Paramount to the top, as the Dark Knight Rises prologue helped Mission: Impossible โ Ghost Protocol to get out of the gates with a strong showing.While finishing in second place with $4.7 billion, Warner Bros. was quick to point out that they are the only studio in history to surpass the $4 billion benchmark for three consecutive years. Warner Bros. also had the top-grossing film of 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. At the domestic box office, Warner Bros. is the only studio to surpass the billion dollar mark for eleven years in a row.
