Zack Snyder and J.J. Abrams have had a friendly rivalry. The pair of blockbuster filmmakers have had fun with one another online for the several months, with little jabs at the other’s franchise. That became merging the franchises together, as Conan O’Brien brought up on Conan Thursday night.

After showing an image of C-3PO as the Dark Knight and Superman hooded with a lightsaber – which, interestingly, when Snyder released that image he chose to go with the red lightsaber of the evil Sith, something critics can certainly have fun with – Conan asked how they get away with their mash-ups.
“The fans really in a lot of ways own those things. You can pretend that it’s a business but in truth, the fans have co-opted Star Wars, and they’ve taken Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman and the DC Universe, and made it their own,” Snyder explained. “It’s like a lifestyle choice more than a business. It’s passion.”
