7 Marvel Villains More Powerful Than Captain America (That He Still Beat Anyway)

With his mighty shield and star-spangled uniform, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, has been fighting villains since 1941. From Nazis to alien tyrants, there is no evildoer that Captain America wouldnโ€™t face in battle. No matter the odds, Captain America always picks up his shield and charges headfirst into danger. Over the decades, his bravery, strength, and strategic mind have allowed him to achieve numerous victories. Many of the villains Captain America has beaten far outclassed him in terms of raw power.

Captain America has fought numerous enemies who are stronger than he is. While some of these villains sometimes proved to be victorious against Captain America, most of the time they fell before the heroโ€™s mighty shield.

7) Baron Blood

Baron Blood is a vicious vampire and a frequent enemy of Captain America, who has fought in both World Wars. Given his vampiric abilities by Dracula himself, Baron Blood possesses super-strength, flight, razor-sharp teeth, hypnosis, shapeshifting, and immortality. With these abilities, the vampire should have had an easy time defeating Captain America. Instead, the World War II super soldier weakened Baron Blood by exposing him to sunlight before decapitating the villain with his shield. Although Baron Blood returned, he has frequently lost to Americaโ€™s hero.

6) Serpent Society

One of Captain Americaโ€™s most frequent enemies is the Serpent Society. This team of snake-themed supervillains is strong in numbers and powers, making it quite improbable that Captain America keeps defeating them singlehandedly. The Serpent Society has over a dozen members, each possessing deadly abilities. The powers of various members include acid spit, super-strength, hypnosis, super-speed, razor-sharp claws, elasticity, teleportation, and shockwave projection. Even when they do defeat Captain America, instead of just killing him, they tie him up and monologue. Americaโ€™s hero then always breaks free of his restraints and beats them up. If the Serpent Society were more coordinated in their attacks, were less loquacious, and just killed Captain America at their first chance, they would be victorious.

5) Hydra Supreme

In one of Marvelโ€™s most controversial storylines, โ€œSecret Empire,โ€ Captain America was replaced and imprisoned by an evil doppelganger from another universe, who was the leader of Hydra. Dubbed Hydra Supreme, this evil version of Captain America easily outwitted and detained most of the Earthโ€™s heroes before taking over both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States. To increase his power, Hydra Supreme donned an Iron Man-like armor that gave him the strength to defeat multiple Avengers simultaneously. Soon after, the original Captain America escaped from his imprisonment and confronted Hydra Supreme. Despite not having a suit of armor like Hydra Supreme, Captain America managed to defeat the villain in an old-fashioned brawl.

4) Red Skull

Captain America has thwarted the plans of the Nazi supervillain, the Red Skull, since World War II. On one occasion, the Red Skull obtained the Cosmic Cube, a weapon that granted any wish the user desired. If he had been smart, the Red Skull would have wished for Captain Americaโ€™s instant death. But no, the Nazi instead decided to toy with his nemesis by making golems to attack him. Captain America then pretended to surrender.

Because of his massive ego, the Red Skull fell for the blatant lie and let Captain America grovel before him. Captain America used the opportunity to jump and grab the Red Skullโ€™s arm. Since the villain couldnโ€™t close his hand on the Cube, he couldnโ€™t make any more wishes. Their scuffle led to the Red Skull dropping the Cube into the ocean; shortly thereafter, he followed the Cube into the water. If the Red Skull had just wished for Captain Americaโ€™s death in the first place, he would have won.

3) Thanos

One of Captain Americaโ€™s most remarkable qualities is that he never gives up, no matter the situation. This mindset was most evident during the Infinity Gauntlet saga, where Thanos acquired all six Infinity Stones and wiped out half of all life in the universe. Even when the Avengers confronted Thanos and were subsequently slaughtered, Captain America got back up and stared down the Mad Titan alone. Although Captain America tried his best, the gap in raw power meant that he couldnโ€™t hurt Thanos. The Mad Titan even broke the heroโ€™s shield as if it were made of glass.

Of course, Captain Americaโ€™s attack was just a distraction for the Silver Surfer to try to snatch the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. Unfortunately, Thanos evaded the Silver Surferโ€™s attack. Having nearly lost the Gauntlet, Thanos easily knocked out Captain America with a single backhanded strike. The fact that Thanos came so close to losing his infinite power because of Captain Americaโ€™s boldness is astounding, as well as Thanosโ€™s failure to kill Captain America with a snap of his fingers.

2) Korvac

Harnessing the Power Cosmic, the villain Korvac is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe. With his god-like abilities, Korvac travelled to the future, where he reigned supreme. Captain America followed Korvac and began a revolution in the villainโ€™s empire. Korvac responded by incinerating the hero instantly. However, Korvac decided that death was not a sufficient punishment, and he wanted first to break Captain Americaโ€™s spirit. So, he rewound time and time again, repeatedly bringing back Captain America.

Captain America never stopped attempting to defeat Korvac and continued to fail. However, Captain Americaโ€™s will to resist the tyrant was relentless. Eventually, Captain Americaโ€™s bravery inspired Korvacโ€™s subjects to revolt against Korvac. Defeated and sickened that Captain Americaโ€™s willpower brought his empire to disarray, Korvac sent Captain America back to the modern day. If Korvac hadnโ€™t decided to torture Captain America by repeatedly rewinding time, the villainโ€™s victory would have been absolute.

1) Satan

Just two years after his first introduction, Captain America fought and defeated the most powerful and evil entity in existence: Satan. Thatโ€™s right. Captain America battled the Ruler of Hell and emerged victorious. What made the victory even more improbable is that Captain America had no magical tools or weapons to fight the Prince of Darkness. Captain America just walloped Satan with a couple of haymakers. To top it all off, when Satan looked into Captain Americaโ€™s eyes, he was utterly overwhelmed by the amount of goodness within the heroโ€™s soul. Cowering in terror, Satan admitted defeat and retreated to the pits of Hell. Not even Satan can match the overwhelming might of the First Avenger!
