With the fifth issue released, the creative team behind Cougar And Cub are now looking toward the trade paperback’s release in July.
Created by artist Daniel Arruda Massa and writers Rosie Knight and Nick Marino, the Couger And Cub collection is currently available for pre-order through the May edition of Previews, but you can get all five issues on Comixology if you can’t wait.
To commemorate the occasion, the team behind the comic provided ComicBook.com with the entire back-up story to Issue 5 by Knight and Massa. Each back up provides a parody of different eras and genres in comic history, with this last one skewering the ’90s alt comics scene in a Daniel Clowes-esque art style.

The story is described as follows:
As Cougar battles her rogues gallery to save Cub in our main story, our final backup story by Rosie Knight and Daniel Arruda Massa transport you to the ironic and cynical days of the 90s! A new alternative comics celebrity has moved to Megaville and he wants to turn his art into life… by killing Cougar and Cub! Can our titular twosome escape this madman’s pretentious plans to erase superheroes from the public consciousness? Or will they succumb to his narrative designs?
And then in the main issue story, Cougar faces off against her greatest foes to save her sidekick Cub, but will she be too late?
Fists fly and eyes cry as we prepare to say bye in our fearless final chapter! Cub’s captured by a conniving cadre of Megaville’s most malicious meanies, and the injured Cougar refuses to sit on the sidelines and lick her wounds. It’s time to end this sequential prattle with a magnificent battle.
