Gotham’s third season ended with Bruce finally taking on the role of Gotham‘s vigilante, and DC fans have been thrilled ever since. Mr. Wayne is finally taking strides toward becoming the Batman.
While it’s been confirmed that Bruce won’t actually don a cowl, or call himself Batman in Season 4, he is progressing toward that eventual conclusion. And, in this new episode, he enjoys a couple of VERY obvious Batman-like moments.
From start to finish, “Pax Penguina” was riddled (Get it?) with references to Bruce’s future as the Dark Knight.
Watching the City
Just as he did in the Season 3 finale, Bruce spent some time in this episode casting a protective eye over the city.
Throughout the comics, and in all of the films, Batman is seen doing the very same thing. He stares out, over the dark and dirty city, checking for any crime that could be taking place.
To go one step further with his rooftop activity, young Bruce Wayne fell through a sky light at the very end of the Gothamย premiere, something Batman has done more often than he’d like to admit.
Growl of the Bat
Batman has always had to disguise his voice. Whether it was with a program that affected his tone or he implemented a throat-scratching growl, Bruce Wayne has always found a way to mask his words when donning the cowl.
Well, young Bruce makes the same change in the Gotham premiere.
During his first battle with criminals in this episode, Bruce tries to be intimidating with a slight growl, a la Christian Bale.
Goodbye Gordon
One of Batman’s most famous calling cards is his uncanny ability to disappear in the middle of a conversation. As you probably know, Jim Gordon is almost always on the losing end of this little stunt.
In tonight’s premiere, young Bruce pulled one over on Jim Gordon when having a conversation with him at the police station. The two were talking strategy, Jim turned around to grab something, and Bruce was gone before he could finish his sentence.
Not only did Bruce disappear while talking with Jim, but the two characters started to form an even closer bond.
Batman isn’t Batman without Gordon and, in this episode, the duo finally started to create a more professional relationship.
She’s got him Whipped
Another signature relationship of Batman’s is his on-again-off-again love with Selinaย Kyle, the Catwoman.
With that in mind, fans have been watching young Bruce’s relationship with Selinaย unfold over the course of three seasons, hoping they will eventually get involved. That eventual love took a step forward tonight.
Selinaย and Bruce had a more intimate conversation while walking along the edge of a rooftop, a location whereย comic fans are used to seeing Batman and Catwomanย spend their nights.
