Few films have undergone the kind of scrutiny Justice League has, but it’s not like every news item has scrutinized the film. Earlier this year, the Internet rejoiced when news broke that Henry Cavill filmed his Justice League reshoots with an epic mustache, and Ben Affleck admits he kind of loved the facial hair.

The most recent issue of Empire Magazine published a feature on Justice League (via Heroic Hollywood), and it was there Affleck addressed his co-star’s amazing mustache. When asked about the whole debacle, the Batman actor said Cavill brought a whole new side of Superman to life with a simple mustache.

“He looked like a porn star from the ’70s, just with a better body,” Affleck said. “It’s a different twist on Superman.”

If you are not familiar with Justice League and its Mustache-Gate, then you have a hilarious story to catch up on. The whole ordeal began this summer when news about the film’s reshoots went live. According to set updates, Cavill did his reshoots as Superman whilst rocking an intense mustache since he was still filming Mission Impossible 6 at the time. The facial hair will be removed in post before Justice League goes live, but the idea of Superman rocking a ‘stache got fans excited.

The issue became big enough that Cavill himself commented on his mustache, and the Instagram post is still worth the read.

“Dear followers, it is time to finally set the record straight in this moustache fiasco,” Cavill wrote on Instagram after posting a picture of his facial hair.

“Pictured above, is not a set on MI6 but is in fact the latest in a series of weapons being designed by Warner Bros and Paramount Studios to combat the entity know as “Henry Cavill’s Moustache”. There has been no discussion over whether to shave or not to shave for the JL reshoots, simply a relentless campaign to put an end to the seemingly inexorable conquest of this despotic ‘stache. It is not a question of IF I should shave – it is a question of how can we possibly be victorious against such a beast without bringing our own doom raining down upon us.”
