The Justice League movie has come and nearly gone, set for home video release later this month when it hits iTunes, but fans are still wondering what could have been.

The epic DC Film was mired in controversy ever since Zack Snyder stepped away from the movie in the wake of a family tragedy, with Joss Whedon filling in on script and directing duties. But new concept art from Justice League: The Art of the Film is offering a glimpse at Snyder's true vision.

The book is loaded with unused imagery from the film, from scenes to concepts that were either abandoned early on or cut out from the finished project. The photographs and pieces of art provide an idea of what Snyder was ultimately attempting before leaving the production.

One photo includes a better shot at the King of Atlantis, celebrating the victory over the forces of Apokolips. His armor looks very similar to that of Aquaman's, including the little "A" insignia on the belt.

It looks like Arthur Curry's is somewhat regal, as evidenced by how it differs from that of the Atlantean soldiers who appear in the film. How will his brother Orm AKA Ocean Master, the current king of the underwater kingdom, react when he sees his Aquaman's superhero garb?

Another image shows the assembled might of the Justice League in battle with the Parademons of Apokolips. While this is likely just meant to convey the the feel and tone of the battle as the League faces the alien threat, we don't really get the teamwork vibe as it's depicted hear.

That's not to say the heroes do not work together — some of the best scenes involve pairings of the heroes as they face a daunting task. But except for the battles against Superman and Steppenwolf, we don't see the assembled group on screen, taking on hordes of Parademons. Snyder's brand of visceral action would have been perfect for such a brawl

This is another take on a horrifying image of Steppenwolf that we managed to see earlier, but it also gives a better look at the H.R. Giger-esque designs that permeate the Apokoliptian technology in the film.

Overall, some might be satisfied with Justice League as it was, but we can't help but wonder if there's some untapped potential in the movie. Maybe we'll find out if they ever unveil that fabled Snyder cut.
