Injustice 2 Story Trailer Released

The new story trailer for Injustice 2 finally debuted Tuesday morning, and it is chock-full of new details and excitement for the game. With a focus on the duality of these characters, a mystery narrator evaluates several DC Comics favorites, like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, while also checking out newcomers like Supergirl, Robin (Damien Wayne, back in that costume), and teased villains as well.

The mystery narrator is revealed to be Brainiac, the other-worldly super-AI who's basically the ultimate Pokemon trainer - instead of pocket monsters, it's civilizations that he wants to collect one of each, however.

From the trailer, it looks like Brainiac wants to thin the herd of superpowered individuals on Earth before he comes to take over, and that will be the primary impetus for them to go at each other once again. A new piece of keyart also reveals that Supergirl seems to be under Brianiac's control. When Comicbook.com spoke to Injustice 2 comic writer Tom Taylor back at San Diego Comic-Con, he teased Supergirl's surprise involvement in the game.

"Supergirl is one I'm really excited for. Her origin, how she's in the game, isn't really talked about, so it's up to us to establish that backstory," Taylor teased. He did loosen up a bit and revealed, "She's rocketing into the world at this point in time. She hasn't been in our world until this time, she's arriving now. And who she hooks up with is going to define where she goes. She's a huge part of it."

Injustice 2 is the sequel to the hit 2013 fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, which saw the heroes and villains of DC Comics clashing in brutal brawls. From the minds behind Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 continues the story of a world where Superman snapped, and used his powers to become not just judge, jury, and executioner over the villains of the DCU, but eventually a dictator, ruling over the world with his fist of steel. After his defeat and imprisonment, the world is trying to pick up the pieces, but won't have much time to rest as Brainiac hits the scene. Injustice 2 hits consoles May 16, 2017.
