After yesterday’s barrage of Supergirl set photos gave a much better sense of what Tyler Hoechlin will look like in action as Superman, a new batch bring his mild-mannered side more to the fore.

New photos show off Hoechlin as Clark Kent — including a “shirt-rip” transformation to Superman photo the provenance of which I can’t prove so I won’t share here — and the fact that he, too, will be visiting National City when his costumed alter-ego comes is likely a welcome development to fans of the character disappointed by how little of the traditional Clark Kent we’ve seen in recent years.
With a publicly-unmasked Clark in the comics who doesn’t even bother to keep a secret identity anymore, to the movie version from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, whose human side gets way less attention and development than his alien side, Clark hasn’t been seen in live action in a big way since Smallville.
But as you can see below, he’s back on Supergirl, palling around with Jimmy Olsen, drinking coffee from Noonan’s, and buying a copy of the Daily Planet.

The height disparity, especially in that last photo, may be curious to fans who remember that James referred to Superman as “the big guy” pretty consistently throughout the first season of the show, but it does help to sell the idea of Clark as an average (at best) guy, and given how much closer in height they look in the middle photo it may be that Clark is slouching in some shots — something he’s known to do in the comics.
The fact that Clark is looking to the sky in the photo at top, and standing before a Daily Planet-branded newsstand is interesting: could it be that we see Supergirl fly to Metropolis to pick up her cousin? That’s just speculation, of course, but it could fit the circumstances.
Supergirl returns in October, and Superman will appear in the second season’s first two episodes.
