Comic adaptations are all over TV and film these days, and most networks are jumping in on the action. ABC, Fox, and The CW have all been airing true superhero shows, while the folks at FX and AMC have been sticking to more abstract comic concepts.

WGN America – a network that’s been on the rise in terms of original programming – is joining the party over the next year or two. After the success of shows like Outsiders and The Underground, WGN is developing a series based on a popular DC/Vertigo comic series.
Jason Aaron’s reservation drama Scalped has been ordered at the network, and it looks like they’ve officially added the first member of the cast.
Lily Gladstone, who enjoyed a breakout year in 2016 with the release of Certain Women, has been tapped to play one of the lead characters in Scalped.
According to the report from Variety,
“Gladstone will play Carol Red Crow, the estranged daughter of Chief Red Crow. The former ‘Rez Princess,’ tragic circumstances set her against her father and down a self-destructive spiral meant to punish him as much as herself. Fiercely independent and intelligent, Carol gradually comes to discover the influence she can play on the Rez’s future.”
Scalped, written by Jason Aaron, ran for sixty issues on the Vertigo label, and gathered a large indie fan-base over the years. The story follows Danshiell Bad Horse, as he goes toe-to-toe with the reservation he grew up on.
DC Executive Geoff Johns will produce the series.
