Following on the heels of March’s DC Comics/Hanna Barbera crossover annuals, could the company’s next fifth week event be one that teams members of the DC Universe up with (or pits them against) Looney Tunes?

That’s certainly what it looks like, with DC teasing a quartet of “specials,” with no context other than their covers.

You can check those out in the attached image gallery.

The specials will apparently star Jonah Hex and Yosemite Sam; Batman and Elmer Fudd; Lobo and the Roadrunner; and The Martian Manhunter and Marvin the Martian.

The Batman cover is by Lee Weeks, who recently has worked on Superman: Lois and Clark and an issue of Titans for the publisher. Kelley Jones drew the Lobo image.

Before releasing the images to the press, DC told comic book retailers at ComicsPRO about their plans.

It isn’t unheard-of for the Warner Bros.-owned DC characters to interact in various ways with Warner Animation’s Looney Tunes world…but generally, it’s just that: they’re taking the party TO Earth-Looney Tunes, so to speak, and existed on their terms. Here, it appears the Looney Tunes characters are being brought…if not to the DC Universe itself, then to a world not unlike the ones being fashioned in DC’s Hanna-Barbera adaptations like The Flintstones and Future Quest.

No official word on creative teams, premises, whether some of these might lead to ongoing stories, or even the official release dates…although May seems to make sense given that it has five weeks, and the DC/HB crossover annuals set to arrive next months are being framed as a fifth-week event so as not to disrupt DC’s release schedules.
