In the run-up to the theatrical release of Suicide Squad, longtime fan-favorite characters Deadshot and Katana were paired up in a miniseries titled Suicide Squad Most Wanted, in which each of the two had their own story by their own creative team.

“To a lot of people, to DC Comics readers who are, say, younger than 30, Katana is a character who is as legitimate a part of the DC universe as, say, Superman,” said Katana’s co-creator, writer Mike W. Barr, who tackled her half of the miniseries. “She’s always been there, so to speak. It’s very gratifying for me to see people regard her that way and have this interest in her as though she has been around for as long as Superman or Batman or Wonder Woman.”
That’s a level the Squad has achieved over decades, culminating with a $700 million-grossing major motion picture that’s still in theaters at the time of this writing.
And it’s the increased profile of the Suicide Squad that allows the second Suicide Squad Most Wanted miniseries to center not on Deadshot and Katana — characters with long histories and who have starred in their own solo books in the past — but Captain Boomerang and El Diablo.
While Boomerang — a longtime villain in The Flash and a fixture of the Suicide Squad — is a recognizable character to comic book fans, all but the DC hardcore hadn’t heard of El Diablo before he appeared in the Suicide Squad movie. He was a standout there, though, and while Boomerang had a relatively small role in the film, he’s on everyone’s mind this week as he played a major role in the newest issue of Suicide Squad.
DC has provided ComicBook.com with a preview of next week’s Suicide Squad Most Wanted: El Diablo & Boomerang #2 from writers Michael Moreci (Boomerang) and Jai Nitz (El Diablo) with art by Oscar Bazaldua (Boomerang) and Cliff Richards (El Diablo).
